George retired in 2006 from Fairfax  County (Virginia) Fire Department after 25 yrs as a career Firefighter/EMT , preceded by 4 yrs. volunteer experience in Loudoun County/Sterling, Virginia. George was assigned to the Great FallsGeorgeT.gif (31813 bytes) Station for over 20 yrs. The station handles a significant number of Swiftwater rescues and technical rope rescues annually. He was the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Swiftwater Coordinator and lead instructor for the department’s Swiftwater Rescue Program and is a Rescue 3 International Master Instructor and Instructor Trainer.  

He has made several local and national television appearances, and has been published in several Fire/Rescue trade magazines .

He is also the rganizer and Team Leader of the Warren County (Virginia) Swiftwater Rescue Team. (Virginia's first statewide swiftwater team)

George is the recipient of Fairfax County’s 1996 Gold Medal of Valor, an honor never before or since bestowed on a member of the Fire Department. He is also the recipient of the 1996 Higgins/Langley Award. In 2005, George was named Rescue 3 Instructor of the Year.

He has participated in or is a member of the Washington Metropolitan Area Swiftwater Rescue Standards Committee, National Association of Search & Rescue (NASAR), Urban Search and Rescue (USAR),  International Rescue Instructors Association, NASAR’s Swiftwater Rescue Standards Committee, Potomac River Rescue Association, Virginia Department of Emergency Management Swiftwater Rescue Standards Committee, and the Urban Search and Rescue Virginia Task Force 1 (USAR VaTF1) Swiftwater component.

In addition to Swiftwater Rescue, his specialties are Technical Rope Rescue, Boat Operations and Rope related equipment sales.
