Terms and Conditions 2009

Physical Condition:  Any activities in the water are strenuous to the body.  Moving water presents additional extreme hazards you need to be aware of.  Good physical conditioning is necessary to complete the activities required in our programs.  Participation is mandatory for completion.  If you are not in good physical condition, or are a smoker, you should reconsider your plans to participate in this training.  Injuries frequently experienced in this training include, but are not limited to strains, sprains, bruises, lacerations, and occasionally water induced laryngo-spasm.  It is strongly recommended that you have adequate health insurance prior to participating in this training.

Student Responsibilities:  Students are responsible for providing their own meals, fluids, and specific Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).  Minimum PPE for water classes are Type III, V, or III-V Personal Floatation Device (PFD), water or climbing helmet, and durable footwear.  Contact an instructor a few weeks prior to the class if you have questions regarding PPE. We do have some rental PFDs and helmets available, but quantities are limited.  If you need to rent equipment, it is your responsibility to notify the instructors prior to the first day of class. Classes held between mid-June through September typically experience water temperatures that are tolerable without additional thermal protection, but wetsuits, drysuits, or other combinations of water sports gear are advisable to persons prone to hypothermia from immersion or inclement weather conditions.  The FAQ page provides additional information on this topic.

Student Conduct

Student safety is paramount, and corporate student/instructor ratios are adjusted to ensure student safety.  Professional behavior is expected. Students that require additional instructor attention due to behavioral issues may be removed from the class and prohibited from further participation by the instructors after only one pre-dismissal warning. Students removed from class for behavioral issues will forfeit all tuition monies paid.  There is no appeal process.

Waiver of Liability

The environments experienced with our training programs are known to be dangerous. Participants are hereby notified they will be required to sign a standard “waiver of liability” form to participate in all programs delivered, with no exception.  It is the student's responsibility to
investigate, prior to the beginning of the class, whether such signature is in violation of any labor organization rules, employment contracts, etc.  Students under the age of 18 are required to have the waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian prior to participation in the practical portions of the programs.  Students under age 18 should acquire a copy of the release form Rescue 3 Virginia prior to the beginning of the course to avoid forfeiture of deposit/tuition after the course has begun as noted in the No Show- Drop Policy.

Medical Insurance

Students that attend courses through a sponsoring agency are typically covered by workers compensation or other benefits provided by their sponsoring agency. Due to the potential for injury it is highly recommended for students that participate on their own to have medical insurance coverage in place.
